ok! I was always thinking that Bharathi compares kaNNamma's 'idai' to 'kaatru veLi'. :)
If he means 'breezy expanse' there won't be sandhi between 'idai' and 'kaNNamma', i think.

First there is the sense of things pouring, soaking, absorbing, and flowing over - amudhu, nilavu
Then there sense of metal-working and foundry - ponn, uyirthee
Third, there is types of thought and what the poet things of them - enni, ninaivu, sinthanai

ReplyDeleteI spoke to my mother and now I understand better. One more theme I would like to add is that it is about instances or expanses in time, inthe kaatru velidai, entha nerumum, ponnena konda pozhuthile.
Amudhu in the first verse repeated in second, as it ponn. Ponn especially is remembered in a contracted form - my current favorite part of the poem!

I loved your translation. I would like to bring to your attention a point: The word 'luscious' lips could be replaced with 'elixir coated' as it is elixir that amudhootru means. I may be wrong as I am not literary expert. Once again, very well done. I was looking for Mahakavi's work in English and I am glad I found you. I will keep a tab on your new works. Thank you.

Sripadma - That line is சித்தினை அசித்துடன் இணைத்தாய் - அங்கு சேரும் ஐம்பூதத்து வியனுலகமைத்தாய்.
