From where does this music rise - who
composed this melody- my friend?

Is it from that hillock? Or
from the boughs of this tree? Or
from the expanse of space? Messes
with my mind, this music.

The resounding waves of sacred Yamuna
river, is it from there? Or
the rustling leaves of the grove,
does this rise, like nectar, from there?

Is it from the forest? Is it
the breeze at moonlight? Does this song
waft from lands across the ocean?
This melody's melting my heart.

Is there any bird that sings
such a warm, nectar like song?
Or is this the music of hidden elves
playing their divine instruments?

This is Kannan's melodious flute! 
It's divine on ears, distress on heart;
this isn't a melody, but an arrow he shoots
to make his lovers sigh , my friend.

இலையொ லிக்கும் பொழிலிடை நின்றும்

காட்டி னின்றும் வருகுவதோ? - நிலாக்
காற்றைக் கொண்டு தருகுவதோ? - வெளி
நாட்டி னின்றுமித் தென்றல் கொணர்வதோ?
நாதமி·தென் உயிரை யுருக்குதே! (எங்கிருந்து)

பறவை யேதுமொன் றுள்ளதுவோ? - இங்ஙன்
பாடுமோ அமுதக்கனற் பாட்டு?
மறைவினின்றுங் கின்னர ராதியர்

கண்ண னூதிடும் வேய்ங்குழல் தானடீ!
காதி லேயமு துள்ளத்தில் நஞ்சு,
